The Italian Journey - 1910

Streets in Naples, 1910..."male and female horrors, swarms of children, animals and smells innumerable..."

While in Pompei, "the dream of my life has come true...as one walked through the perfectly preserved streets and houses one could picture the gay city life,"

The Forum in Rome, with the Colosseum visible in the background...not much evidence of people, traffic or pollution then...Wynne would have been lucky enough to have experienced all this as a strange and wild ruin..."the wonder and interest of this most wonderful place..."

and finally, St Peter's in Rome and the Ponte Vecchio in Florence...both looking rather different to how they appear today!
