February 25th, Wednesday
Here is Ash Wednesday and Lent once more. We went down to service in the morning and it started and ended by being a lovely day but in the middle of the day grew so bitterly cold. Gran is making me nervous tonight, she has just had one of her little attacks of speechlessness and it always frighten me. It would be so sad if anything were to happen just now.

Poggy and I went to Town today just for the night to meet the Grays who had asked Mother and us to dine and go to a theatre with them…at 7.0 (they) sent their car for us and we dined with them at the Hyde Park and went on to the Marriage of Kitty, a revival and as amusing as ever. It was very lovely seeing them again. (The programme is in the adjacent window)

I had to get back by lunch time today as I had my reading at the Home to do, so very loathe to return home I arrived at 1.0. this evening we had people to dinner. The Percivals, our successors, the Crees and the Halls. Mrs Hall has a most unfortunate appearance, she is very stout with a high colour and dresses in very brilliant garments and reminds me in face rather of old Mrs Cox the furniture shop woman in Aldershot! Gran is a bit better today but very feeble and tired. We are keeping her as quiet as possible.
Feb 28th, Saturday.
The last day of Feb, it has been a very good one on the whole. We’ve had some lovely days but I am always glad when its over. Miss Chisham and Capt. Barnes came to tea, the former is trying but poor girl I am so sorry for her, she has a dull life and no prospects on earth.
