While the family were in Aldershot Wynne did a lot of unpaid work at the YMCA Hut. Troops stationed in the town and awaiting their movement orders were entertained here with tea, cakes and musical offerings. You can see from the pictures how the place was laid out – Wynne would have stood at the back of the bottom picture, behind the counter. The opposite end held the stage.

Perhaps its appropriate that it’s empty – so many of the men who sat here must never have come back.
