JULY
July 27th
This was the day of Mr Hughes’ picnic (at Haddon Hall) and so we assembled at Ashdell at 10.45 and set off in a private coach got for the day to drive to Haddon. On arrival we found ourselves a party of 21, the rest had come in another coach and 3 motors. A sumptuous champagne lunch was spread out on the grass at which we all over eat ourselves and then strolled all over Haddon Hall and the lovely grounds. What a place it is, so full of memories and romance (and trippers!). How one longs to go over it all by oneself or with chosen spritis. We then had tea and drove home another way all through Chatsworth Park and over the Moors. We didn’t reach home until past 9.0!
Notice the servant in smart boots on the right…
