When Wynne’s family arrived at Mombasa they were put up by their old family friend, Adie Maclean, who was the District Commissioner there. It was Adie’s brother, Charles, who had been Wynne’s first great love. Adie’s house was a substantial affair, and a lot more comfortable than any they were to live in for some years…
