The Diary in December
Wynne started keeping her diary in November. The family now prepare for Christmas at their home, Brookfield, in Dorset.
December 1st – 7th
The Bazaar, painting classes and Christmas
preparations begin. On the 7th Wynne has a scare from a runaway
horse.
December 8th – 14th
December weather. Hare coursing, mud, love
letters and horrible new hymns in church.
December 15th – 21st
A Christmas trip to Bath for present shopping
and much visiting of friends and relations.
December 22nd – 28th
Wynne has a very dull Christmas…presents
are given and received on the 24th, so the 25th seems very boring.
December 29th – 31st
New Year’s Eve is a much more rumbustious
affair – games, pranks, and the house in uproar…
