The Diary in January

This is volume 24 of Wynne’s diaries.  She started them when she was fifteen.

January 1st – 7th

The New Year starts cold, but a ball enlivens things
before the family decamps from their army home in Upper Hale near
Aldershot, to stay with the in-laws in Chelmsford.

January 8th – 15th

Lazing at Springfield, Chelmsford, with a visit to London to
see the Pantomime at Drury Lane as a Christmas treat.

January 16th – 24th

The winter break at Springfield continues,
with occasional forays to London – to the Zoo or to Paddington to
wave goodbye to her son, going back to school.

January 25th – 31st

Back home to Aldershot – but letters from
her polo-playing brother in India and a London visit to an opera
make it bearable
