The Diary in July

Smallpox does not stop most of the usual activities.

The Gloucestershire and Bristol Folk Festival takes place.

 

July 1st – 9th

A hot start to the month, and smallpox still rages in Gloucester.

Frantic jam making.

July 10th – 19th

A Cotteswold Field Day goes ahead but they pull out of a big Mothers Union meeting because of the smallpox epidemic.

More jam making!

July 20th – 31st

MU and Unionist Association meetings, and a big Folk Dance Festival with Cecil Sharp in attendance.

Wynne’s brother is urgently recalled to India.
